a strong voice for our members
With increased taxes and regulation, AGHA strives to deliver services that will help our members deliver smarter solutions and deal with their effects.
We are also a strident advocate on issues which influence and affect our members.
Positioned as the hub of the gift and homewares industry, AGHA represents a substantial voice when it comes to confronting Government, authorities and departments on issues which currently, or are likely to, affect our members.
Here are some examples of how we have actively and successfully pursued members interests with the Government:
- Defended most businesses against absorption costing from the Australian Tax Office.
- Participated in an Industry Action Group to rectify problems with the Integrated Cargo System implemented by the Australian Customs Service, until issues were resolved in 2009.
- Dedicated to reducing the use of plastic bags and increase the recycling rates of plastic bags in agreement with the Environment Protection and Heritage Council and
- Submitted to, and made representations in support of, a number of international free trade agreements.
Additionally, AGHA continues to monitor political and commercial activities outside the sector that may affect the industry and encourages members to take an active part in identifying governmental and regulatory positions that will adversely affect the industry as a whole.
